Indian investigators claim former Navy chief received kickbacks

In the continuing saga that is Indian defense contracting comes word that the former head of the Navy, Admiral S M Nanda is being investigated for kickbacks as part of the deal to buy the former Russian aircraft carrier, Admiral Gorshkov. See The Times of India article for further sordid details. It turns out that the admiral’s son was acting as a broker for various deals including this one.

Czech companies express interest in US missile defense work

According to this Russian news agency various Czech companies are trying to win some work in the construction of the planned US radar in the Czech Republic for missile defense. The article is here. There is no real detail and is not sourced very well. The article also expresses the official Russian government view of not wanting the radar there.

Private Russian Bank Sells EADS Stake to Government Bank

According to AFX News Limited:

Russia’s JSC VTB Bank is selling its 5 pct stake in the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co (EADS) to the VEB state bank for development and foreign trade for 1.45 bln usd, banking industry sources told Russia’s Vedomosti newspaper. … The sources added that VEB will then transfer the stake to Russia’s United Aircraft Corp (UAC).
