Incident Control Systems, LLC Develops New ASV Cupola Armor Systems — Press Release

Incident Control Systems, LLC Develops New ASV Cupola Armor Systems

New Bedford, MA, December 1,2009 – In response to the changing threat and terrain from Iraq to Afghanistan, Incident Control Systems, LLC has privately developed a modular ASV Turret Cupola Armor System called TOPS (Turret Occupant Protection Systems) that can be rapidly deployed in the field as well as configured for specific missions. This is the first system of its kind developed exclusively for the ASV Up-Gunned Weapons Station. “The TOPS systems developed by our team combined ICS armor expertise, UGWS user knowledge, and integration expertise to design a cupola armor system for the ASV that minimized weight while maximizing protection”, said Eddie Terrenzi, VP of Business Development.

The Turret Occupant Protection System utilizes lightweight materials to give 360 degree armor protection to the ASV UGWS operator when they are exposed through the top of the UGWS. The operator has access to a secondary weapons mount on the TOPS systems as well as an emergency egress system. The TOPS system can be deployed in the field and installed quickly using basic tools. The design is such that it integrates onto the existing UGWS with no modifications and does not adversely impact the vehicles by adding excessive weight. Previous turret armor designs such as the Objective Gunner’s Protection Kit (OGPK), have been constructed of heavy materials such as armor plate steel. These designs require vehicle modifications to accommodate the weight as well as lifting assist devices to install the armor system. Theses previous systems do not allow for scalable threat armor solutions. The TOPS system addresses the weight, scalability, and modularity shortfalls that are seen in currently fielded turret armor systems. “Our goal was to design a scalable threat and modular design armor protection kit that could be easily integrated and rapidly deployed by the warfighter in the field”, said Steve Monette, President.

Several of the armor options available for the TOPS system have already undergone ballistic testing and are ready for immediate deployment. The TOPS system currently is Patent Pending.

Incident Control Systems Develops New Composite Armor Rapid Escape Door System — Press Release

Incident Control Systems Develops New Composite Armor Rapid Escape Door System

New Bedford, MA, June 23, 2009: Incident Control Systems, LLC has developed a new revolutionary composite armor door system called C-LEADS. C-LEADS is a Composite Lightweight Escape Armored Door System, designed to be a one-for-one replacement for traditional metallic armor doors on tactical and combat wheeled vehicles that provides rapid escape for vehicle applicant. The protection level of C-LEADS is scalable in order to meet vehicle specific requirements. The advanced composite armor technology reduces the weight of up to 30% compared to metallic armor systems while maintaining the same protection level. The composite armor has been successfully tested against IED’s at close range as well as a variety of direct fire threats ranging from the 7.62mm AP to the 14.5mm AP. The C-LEADS design incorporates three rapid escape mechanisms that allow for quick extrication of personnel inside.

The replacement doors have a quick release window box, quick release hinges, and an improved “all in one” combat lock and latch system. These escape mechanisms can be accessed from either outside or inside the vehicle. The U.S. Army has expressed an interest in the C-LEADS design for use on the HMMWV and a partnership to further develop the HMWWV design with the Amy is underway. ICS has designed the C-LEADS doors for the HMMWV, FMTV and MRAP vehicles.

“Our goal was to design a door that could replace heavy steel armor while maintaining the same level of protection. We were able to do this and add additional safety features like the rapid escape devices” said Eddie Terrenzi, VP of Business Development for Incident Control Systems, LLC.
