FARNBOROUGH, England, - Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), the prime lead for Joint Precision Approach Landing System Increment 1, has formed a team to include Rockwell Collins and Honeywell International to compete for JPALS Increment 2.
JPALS is a civil and military precision landing system. It provides accurate, reliable landing guidance for fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft during all weather conditions. JPALS features anti-jam protection to assure mission continuity in a hostile environment.
JPALS is replacing current instrument landing and precision approach radar landing systems.
"The Raytheon-Rockwell-Honeywell team has the expertise needed to implement JPALS Increment 2," said Andy Zogg, Raytheon Network Centric Systems vice president of Command and Control Systems. "I am confident the combined strength of our three companies will best meet the customer's requirements."
Raytheon is a leader in satellite-based augmentation systems for air travel navigation. It has certified SBAS systems in the United States and Japan and is developing a similar system in India. Raytheon's experience in developing complex air traffic management systems uniquely qualifies it to design and deploy JPALS Increment 2.
Rockwell Collins is a world leader in the development and deployment of innovative communications and avionic electronic products and systems for commercial and government applications. The company's expertise brings the data links and GPS subsystem solutions for the JPALS Increment 2 land-based system and the airborne avionics needed to validate the entire end-to-end performance of the system.
Honeywell brings its FAA-certified SmartPath™ Ground Based Augmentation System with civil interoperability capabilities and aircraft navigation system expertise to the Raytheon team. Honeywell's SmartPath Precision Landing System, an existing, off-the-shelf system, provides a low-risk solution for JPALS Increment 2 and is already providing GPS precision landings at 20 airports around the world.

Rockwell Collins To Build New Training System For E-2D

The Navy is introducing an upgraded version of their E-2 radar plane. The E-2D is made by Northrop Grumman and is the latest version of the aircraft that has been in service since the 1970′s. It offers improved radar and command and control capabilities over the E-2C currently being used.
As part of this new system going into use the Navy contracted with Rockwell Collins to build the integrated maintenance training system. This four year contract is worth over $60 million. Rockwell will design and build maintenance simulators as well as course material and a computer delivery system. The contract also includes support for these systems once they are delivered.

Rockwell Collins, Inc., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was awarded a $208,905,836 contract which will provide for the Senior Leadership Command, Control, and Communications System - Airborne Communications program. The contractor will provide secure voice, data, and video systems for the very important person special air mission fleet, up to 40 aircraft, to include: communication system operator work stations; passenger stations voice over internet protocol phones; video teleconferencing systems; classified and unclassified local area networks; and training, maintenance, and logistic support. Lockheed Martin Corp., Syracuse, N.Y., was awarded on April 12 a $108,490,207 firm-fixed-price contract. The government intends to procure 17 enhanced AN/TPQ-36 (EQ-36) radar systems with the associated sustained operational group and mission essential group (MEG) non-recurring engineering and MEG installation under an undefinitized contractual action with an obligation of 49 percent of the estimated value. Work is to be performed in Syracuse, N.Y., with an estimated completion date of Oct. 8, 2010. Sole-source bids were solicited with one bid received. Raytheon Network Centric Systems, St. Petersburg, Fla., is being awarded an $8,090,839 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-08-C-5203) for Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) system production. CEC is a sensor netting system that significantly improves battle-force anti-air warfare capability by extracting and distributing sensor-derived information and making the data available to all participating CEC units. This modification combines purchases for the U.S. Navy (97.3 percent) and the government of the United Kingdom (2.7 percent) under the Foreign Military Sales program. NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER CHINA LAKE, Calif., -- Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Joint Standoff Weapon C-1 achieved a major milestone when it completed its first captive-flight test on an F/A-18E/F fighter aircraft.
JSOW is a family of low-cost, air-to-ground weapons that employs an integrated GPS- inertial navigation system and terminal imaging infrared seeker that guide the weapon to the target. JSOW C-1 adds moving maritime target capability and the two-way Rockwell Collins Strike Common Weapon Datalink to the combat-proven weapon.
"This test demonstrates the ability of the Strike Common Weapon Datalink to operate in a challenging flight environment," said Phyllis McEnroe, Raytheon's JSOW program director. "Working closely with our U.S. Navy teammates, we intend to add additional functionality to the weapon, culminating in a free-flight test later this year."
The test demonstrated the JSOW's ability to enter the Link-16 network and transmit networked-enabled weapon messages.
"This test is a crucial step forward in giving the warfighter the world's first Link-16 networked standoff weapon capable of engaging moving maritime targets," said Cmdr. Douglas Phelan, JSOW Integrated Product Team leader.

Raytheon has produced more than 4,000 JSOWs to date, with more than 100 months of continuous on-time delivery. The JSOW C is currently in production, and Raytheon will continue producing it for international customers.
