Lockheed Martin Awarded $160 Million for Continued Support of U.S. Navy Land-Based Aegis Test Facility — Press Release
Lockheed Martin Awarded $160 Million for Continued Support of U.S. Navy Land-Based Aegis Test Facility
MOORESTOWN, N.J., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ — The U.S. Navy awarded Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) a $160 million follow-on contract for technical and engineering support of its land-based test facility for the Aegis Ballistic Defense (BMD) Weapon System.
Known locally as the “the Cruiser in the Cornfield” for its ship-like exterior appearance, the Navy’s Vice Admiral James H. Doyle Combat Systems Engineering Development Site (CSEDS) develops, integrates and delivers sophisticated computer software that allows the Aegis Weapon System to constantly evolve to meet the world’s emerging threats. CSEDS incorporates highly-integrated, classified, real-time networks that connect numerous contractor and U.S. government facilities.
In addition to ongoing support for CSEDS, the new contract calls for Lockheed Martin to support, operate and maintain the Naval Systems Computing Center (NSCC) and the SPY-1A naval radar test suite located near CSEDS. The NSCC and SPY-1A test suite provide critical capability for early computer program development and element testing, prior to system level integration and test at CSEDS.
Formally commissioned as a Navy facility in May 1977, CSEDS garnered national attention in 2008 for the role it played leading up to the Aegis BMD Weapon System’s successful interception of an errant satellite. The Navy staff at CSEDS, working alongside Lockheed Martin engineers, tested modifications to Aegis before the modifications were installed on the ships in the Pacific for the mission. The real-time collaboration between engineers and sailors with the land-based Aegis system was a critical factor in meeting the timeline for the mission.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation reported 2009 sales of $45.2 billion.

Lockheed Martin Inducts Second C-5 Galaxy for RERP Modernization Program
MARIETTA, Ga., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) recently inducted its second C-5 Galaxy strategic transport into the Reliability Enhancement and Re-engining Program (RERP) production line at its Marietta, Ga., facility. The RERP modifications consist of more than 70 improvements and upgrades to the C-5 airframe and aircraft systems, and include the installation of new higher-thrust, more reliable turbofan engines.
“Each RERP aircraft induction is a major milestone for our program. We are making great strides with our first RERP induction and expect to keep up the same productive pace with this aircraft,” said Lorraine Martin, Lockheed Martin C-5 vice president. “Every C-5M we produce gives added strength to the U.S. Air Force fleet and the warfighters who protect our country.”
The C-5M is the product of a two-phase modernization effort. The first, the ongoing Avionics Modernization Program (AMP), provides the aircraft a state-of-the-art glass cockpit with modern avionics and flight instruments. Nearly half of the C-5 fleet has already undergone the AMP modifications. RERP is the second phase of the C-5 modernization effort.
The second aircraft to enter the RERP production line is a C-5B based at Dover AFB, Del. This aircraft, U.S. Air Force serial number 85-0002, was first delivered to Travis AFB, Calif., on Sept. 30, 1986, and was stationed there for much of its career, until it moved to Dover. This C-5 Galaxy currently has more than 19,000 flight hours.
Current Air Force plans call for Lockheed Martin to deliver 52 C-5Ms (modification of 49 C-5Bs, two C-5Cs, and one C-5A) by 2016. Three C-5Ms, the former Super Galaxy test fleet, have been redelivered to the U.S. Air Force at Dover AFB.

Callan, Vice Commander, 17th Air Force and U.S. Air Forces Africa, from Ramstein Air Base, Germany, today accepted the tenth of 14 Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) C-130Js to be based at Ramstein. The USAF Europe C-130Js based there also support the airlift needs of Africa Command (AFRICOM).
“I was excited to be asked by the 86 Airlift Wing commander to fly one of his new J-models to Ramstein Air Base,” Callan said. “As our USAF continues to upgrade its C-130 fleet, this C-130J will climb faster, go farther and perform with precision in all qualification and missions areas. Lockheed Martin Super Hercules Deliveries Strengthen USAF and USMC Fleets
MARIETTA, Ga., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Demonstrating the increase in the C-130J build and delivery rate, Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) simultaneously delivered two C-130Js on Nov. 19 to two different customers – a C-130J to the U.S. Air Forces in Europe and a KC-130J to the U.S. Marine Corps.
The USAFE C-130J was accepted by Brig. Gen. Mark C. “Marshal” Dillon, commander of the 86th Airlift Wing, Ramstein Air Base, and commander, Kaiserslautern Military Community, Germany. The KC-130J Tanker was accepted by a Marine Corps flight crew and will be based at VMGR-152, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan.
“Adding another C-130J is not a linear addition; it’s geometric in terms of the capability of the airplane,” Dillon said. “One plus one doesn’t always equal two, sometimes it equals three or four because of the great capability of the C-130J. After spending the last two weeks at Little Rock Air Force Base and seeing the tremendous capability of the C-130J, it’s just going to add capability to Ramstein, Europe and that part of the world – which our country needs and our European partners need.”
“Delivery of two aircraft to two customers in one day is a clear indication of the accelerating pace of the C-130J program,” said Ross Reynolds, Lockheed Martin vice-president, C-130 programs. “The worldwide demand for this proven airlifter continues to grow and we are steadily increasing production to meet the demand.”
The Ramstein delivery represents the eighth C-130J for the base, which will receive 10 C-130Js by the end of 2009. Four more will be delivered in 2010. The KC-130J is the 36th of 46 aircraft on order to be delivered to the USMC.

Lockheed Martin Delivers First Set of U.S. Customs & Border Protection P-3 Orion New Production Wings — Press Release
Lockheed Martin Delivers First Set of U.S. Customs & Border Protection P-3 Orion New Production Wings
MARIETTA, Ga., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) officials marked the delivery of the first CBP set of new production P-3 Orion wings from the company’s Marietta, Ga., production facility today.
The new production wings are the cornerstone of the Aircraft Service Life Extension Program (ASLEP) which provides an industry-unique solution in keeping the world’s P-3 fleets operational. P-3 operators selecting ASLEP will benefit from an additional 15,000+ flight hours per updated aircraft, extending the P-3’s service life 20-25 years.
“Lockheed Martin is extremely proud of its strong partnership with our Customs & Border Protection customer,” said Ray Burick, Lockheed Martin P-3/S-3 Programs vice president. “The CBP P-3 mission is truly unique, and vital to our nation’s homeland security initiatives. We are honored to play a role in supporting CBP.”
Under ASLEP, P-3 outer wings, center wing lower surface assembly, horizontal stabilizer, wing and horizontal stabilizer leading edges and various filet fairings are replaced. All necessary fatigue-life limiting structures are replaced, and new alloys are employed that provide a fivefold increase in corrosion resistance. ASLEP removes all current airframe flight restrictions on the P-3.
In April 2008, CBP contracted with Lockheed Martin under the P-3 Aircraft Service Life Extension Program (ASLEP), ordering up to 14 all-new production wing life extension kits. To date, CBP has placed firm orders for six life extension kits. Other ASLEP customers to date include Canada and Taiwan. The U.S. Navy has contracted with Lockheed Martin for 13 sets of P-3 outer wings.

BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin Successfully Test Rocket Motor on Long-Range Land Attack Projectile
MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin successfully fired two Long-Range Land Attack Projectiles (LRLAP), with full-scale rocket motors at Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah, to demonstrate the Navy’s 155-mm LRLAP program is on track for guided flight tests in June.
LRLAPs are precision guided projectiles fired by the Navy’s Advanced Gun System (AGS), a fully automated, 155-mm, stabilized gun mount. The primary mission of the LRLAP is land attack warfare in support of ground and expeditionary forces beyond the line of sight.
“Without extended range, precision guided munitions, the Navy is limited in its ability to provide critical, long-range fire support from ship to maneuver forces,” said Jim Schoppenhorst, vice president and general manager for U.S. Combat Systems at BAE Systems. “This test shows that 155-mm LRLAP is on schedule to provide DDG 1000 an extremely capable precision guided munition.”
The BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin LRLAP team is in the final stages of systems design and demonstration and preparing for system qualification and verification following system level critical design review in 2010.
