US Navy orders torpedoes

The US Navy contracted with Raytheon to procure ship, submarine and aviation based torpedoes. The $165 M contract is for both Mk 48 and Mk 54 torpedoes. Some of them will be used to fulfill FMS orders as well. The Mk 48 are larger and equip submarines. The Mk 54 light weight torpedo can be dropped by aircraft or fired from surface ships.

CACI reports

In the continuing trend of large defense contractors resulting improved results, CACI had a 13% growth in earnings compared to the equivalent quarter a year ago. Forbes.com reports. CACI is a leading provider of services to the US intelligence community, especially the Defense side. They also provide other services to the US government such as IT and logistics management. Revenue growth was even more impressive, surging over 20% on large intelligence contracts.

Britain expected to buy KC-30 aircraft as well

This short note at Forbes.com indicates that the UK government will buy KC-30 aircraft manufactured by EADS and with Rolls-Royce engines. This is a much smaller contract then the US Air Force one, but it builds on that success. I don’t know who else bid on this contract, but one would assume it had to be Boeing as there is nobody else. The contract will be worth $26 B dollars.
Not only the US has problems with C3 programs
This article in Forbes.com describes the Danish cancellation of a contract with SAAB. It was for a C3 system called DACCIS. Not only did Denmark cancel the contract they are suing the company for 143 M Danish Kronor. Read more
Marines order training devices

L-3 Communications won a contract from the Navy to provide video and audio capture devices. See the article at Forbes here. These will be used to support pre-deployment training at various sites in the US. The contract is worth $326 M. The devices are quite sophisticated as the price indicates.
Army buys more Oshkosh Truck systems

The Army awarded Oshkosh Truck a $49 M contract for more heavy tactical vehicle systems. See Forbes.com for more. The US military continues to buy armored vehicles for Iraq and Afghanistan to replace those that normally aren’t armored.
