Lyster Health Clinic to Deploy AtHoc’s Network-Centric Mass Notification Supporting Clinic’s Emergency Preparedness Plan for H1N1 Pandemic and Other Threats
AtHoc IWSAlerts to Enhance Force Protection and Provide Unified Emergency Notification Capability to Clinic Personnel
SAN MATEO, Calif. (November 13, 2009) – AtHoc, Inc., the pioneer and leader in network-centric emergency notification systems, today announced the Lyster Army Health Clinic will deploy the AtHoc IWSAlerts™ third-generation mass emergency alerting system to help protect staff and patients. Lyster Army Health Clinic is located at Fort Rucker in Alabama. The clinic provides primary care and ancillary services to a military population that consists of active duty service members, their families, a large retiree population and their family members.
Lyster will rely on AtHoc IWSAlerts to notify personnel about threats faced by most domestic military installations–threats posed by weather or man-made sources. However, as a medical organization, Lyster will leverage network technology for the rapid delivery of alerts for clinic-related operational communications. These can range from biological or chemical contaminations; communication of epidemic or pandemic information; or a staff recall with a large influx of patients due to a mass casualty incident. In addition to outward bound notifications, Lyster will be able to connect to external sources of alerts, such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), to automate the dissemination of local or national CDC information such as recent Swine Flu (H1N1) updates.
Maintaining the privacy of personnel information is a requirement of all health care organizations. Using AtHoc IWSAlerts, Lyster clinic personal information will be deployed behind the firewall and kept highly secure.
The deployment of AtHoc’s IWSAlerts at Lyster represents another step in the Department of Defense medical community’s adoption of third-generation mass notification technology. Third-generation systems leverage existing IP networks to (a) communicate rapidly to all IP connected devices; (b) integrate and unify disparate existing mass notification capabilities; (c) provide bi-directional communication allowing collection of feedback from all personnel; and (d) achieve enterprise-level scalability and processes. The result is the most effective enterprise-wide mass notification capability with the best cost to benefit ratio.
“We look forward to deploying our award-winning mass alerting solution at the Lyster Army Health Clinic. Along with Irwin Army Hospital at Fort Riley, the deployment of AtHoc’s IWSAlerts at Lyster Army Health Clinic demonstrates the ability of our network-based mass notification system to meet the unique requirements of large DoD health care organizations,” said Andy Anderson, Vice President of Defense Operations for AtHoc. “AtHoc continues to be adopted by more and more DoD medical community organizations, including the Navy’s BUMED and Army and Air Force clinics and hospitals.”

U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center to Deploy AtHoc IWSAlerts for Organization-wide Emergency Notification
Centralized Installation of Emergency Alerting Solution Will Provide Notification Capabilities to 2,500 Personnel Across the United States
SAN MATEO, Calif. (August 10, 2009) – AtHoc Inc., the pioneer and leader in network-centric emergency notification systems, today announced the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) will deploy AtHoc IWSAlerts™ to provide emergency mass notification to its entire population of roughly 2,500 personnel across the United States.
The deployment of AtHoc IWSAlerts IP-based mass notification system will enable the command’s emergency planners to rapidly deliver emergency alerts via multiple devices such as computers, cell and landline phones, and ERDC’s existing public address system through a single, unified Web console.
ERDC’s adoption of a unified, network-centric alerting system represents another step in the Department of Defense’s rollout of third-generation mass notification technology. Leveraging existing IP networks and integrating existing mass notification capabilities results in an effective enterprise-wide system that is able to alert all personnel and receive feedback on their status.
As the Army’s top research lab, ERDC provides science, technology and expertise in engineering and environmental science in support of the U.S. Armed Forces and the nation. ERDC is part of the Corps of Engineers and provides research and development in the areas of warfighter support, environmental quality, water resources and civil works, and information technology. In support of this work, ERDC has seven laboratories located in Vicksburg, Miss., Champaign, Ill., Hanover, N.H., and Alexandria, Va.
ERDC will deploy AtHoc’s network-centric emergency notification solution to leverage its IP network to quickly reach personnel through any network-connected device in case of an emergency. By using the IP network, organizations can send information about the evolving emergency, provide detailed instructions for action based on the recipient’s role within the organization and receive recipient responses via a feedback mechanism.
AtHoc IWSAlerts will be deployed centrally at ERDC headquarters in Vicksburg with a secondary failover site in Champaign. Each lab will be able to access AtHoc IWSAlerts through the Web to notify local personnel, and commanders and emergency operators at Vicksburg will also have the ability to alert all personnel at all locations as necessary.
In order to ensure accurate and up-to-date personnel contact information, AtHoc IWSAlerts will integrate with ERDC’s Active Directory system. Using the AtHoc IWSAlerts self-service module, ERDC personnel can also update their own contact information directly through an easy-to-use portal.
“ERDC is responsible for mission-critical projects ranging from measuring Arctic temperatures to testing vehicle mobility in sand,” said Colonel David W. Brown (Ret.), director of U.S. Army operations for AtHoc. “We are delighted to be able to help support the ERDC in its mission by keeping the research center informed and safe in times of emergency.”

AtHoc Software Selected for Theater-Wide Deployment to all USAFCENT Installations, Including Iraq and Afghanistan
SAN MATEO, Ca. (January 21, 2009) – AtHoc, Inc., the pioneer and leader in network-centric emergency notification systems, today announced the U.S. Air Force Central Command (USAFCENT) has awarded a $5.4 million contract for a theater-wide deployment of AtHoc IWSAlerts™ . Through this award, AtHoc has become the network-centric emergency mass notification standard for the entire command and will be deployed at all USAFCENT installations in Iraq, Afghanistan and other allied nations.
USAFCENT is the air component of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). It is responsible for air operations, either unilaterally or in concert with coalition partners, and for contingency planning to support CENTCOM’s 20-nation area of responsibility in Southwest Asia. Once deployed, AtHoc IWSAlerts will provide a command-wide alerting solution for reaching all personnel within the command while also providing each installation with its own local alerting system.
AtHoc has a proven track record in the Department of Defense (DoD). AtHoc solutions today are being used to support more than 1.2 million DoD personnel across 150 installations worldwide, of which 500,000 are Air Force personnel. Installations and commands throughout the DoD benefit from AtHoc’s unified alerting approach, enterprise-wide architecture, reliability and ease of use.
AtHoc IWSAlerts will be deployed over SIPRNET and NIPRNET, providing emergency alerting over USAFCENT’s classified and unclassified networks. The system will also be integrated with Microsoft SharePoint to support data inputs and delivery outputs, leveraging local Microsoft SharePoint implementations. Failover support will also be implemented for redundancy purposes and continuity of operations. Cisco IP and telephony communication infrastructure is also used by AFCENT and can be leveraged by the deployment.
“The combination of AtHoc’s solution, which runs on the Microsoft stack, and Microsoft SharePoint provides a powerful alerting platform that manages the entire alerting process – from receiving threat information to disseminating alerts to the people who need them,” said Teresa Carlson, vice president, U.S. federal government, Microsoft Corp. “USAFCENT now has access to a powerful, highly versatile solution that enhances command-wide responses to emergencies. This type of situational awareness allows the command to enact the appropriate response to threats that can range from enemy attacks to extreme weather.”
“AtHoc is honored to be trusted by USAFCENT to provide emergency alerting to all of its personnel deployed in the most intense battlefronts,” said Guy Miasnik, president and CEO of AtHoc. “Our mission-tested systems have already been proven through many real-life emergencies, including protecting our Army troops in Iraq and Air Force personnel worldwide, and they are a perfect fit for USAFCENT’s needs. At the end of the day, it’s all about protecting lives by getting the word out as quickly as possible to troops wherever they are located.”
