United States Coast Guard Deploys AtHoc IWSAlerts for its Enterprise-Wide Emergency Mass Notification Solution

AtHoc 3rd Generation Network-Centric Mass Notification System to Alert USCG Personnel, Maritime Industry Partners and Other Government Agencies during Emergency

SAN MATEO, Calif. (January 11, 2010) – AtHoc, Inc., the pioneer and leader in network- centric mass notification systems, today announced the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has deployed AtHoc IWSAlerts™ for its nationwide emergency notification solution. More than 100 USCG facilities, ranging from headquarters, to districts, down to every sector and local station, will use the system which has the capability to reach 50,000 USCG personnel and maritime industry members.

The USCG’s Alert and Warning System (AWS) was initially developed to transmit maritime security notifications and receive confirmations from maritime security partners and stakeholders as required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002. AWS is undergoing significant changes to provide greater usability and functionality and to support additional USCG missions – hurricane preparedness, natural disasters, personnel recalls, search and rescue operations, and waterway closure. The AtHoc solution will support the next generation of AWS for all Coast Guard missions and provide additional capabilities and services to the USCG and maritime partners to enhance maritime safety and security.

AtHoc’s enterprise-wide architecture allows deployment in a centralized data center to support the 100 different USCG locations. Each location can have its own local account and maintain information securely on an internal network. The unified approach of the AtHoc system provides centralized alert activation, control and management from a Web-based console.

AtHoc IWSAlerts will deliver emergency alerts over multiple channels, such as voice (via public switched telephone network), landlines, cellular and satellite phone, e-mail, SMS and fax to recipients in dispersed geographical areas or individual units throughout the USCG. Personnel accountability will be accomplished by tracking and managing user responses to alert notifications in real time.

The AtHoc solution is integrated with “Homeport,” the Coast Guard’s Internet portal. Homeport supports the secure information-sharing requirements established by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002. Complete, seamless and continuous integration will occur between the AtHoc solution and the USCG’s user directories through the application of open standards such as the Local Directory Access Protocol and Active Directory.

“The U.S. Coast Guard’s deployment of AtHoc’s network-centric mass notification solution as its enterprise standard reaffirms the power and flexibility of the AtHoc IWSAlerts platform, as was proven by AtHoc’s extensive DoD deployment,” said Guy Miasnik, president and CEO of AtHoc. “The Coast Guard sought a reliable, enterprise-wide solution that could disseminate sensitive but unclassified alerts to its personnel, maritime industry partners and other government agencies, rapidly and with high confidence. Given the USCG’s leading role in national security and homeland defense, AtHoc is honored to be selected as the mass notification solution partner to provide these critical capabilities that are needed to carry out USCG’s important mission.”

U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center to Deploy AtHoc IWSAlerts for Organization-wide Emergency Notification — Press Release

U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center to Deploy AtHoc IWSAlerts for Organization-wide Emergency Notification

Centralized Installation of Emergency Alerting Solution Will Provide Notification Capabilities to 2,500 Personnel Across the United States

SAN MATEO, Calif. (August 10, 2009) – AtHoc Inc., the pioneer and leader in network-centric emergency notification systems, today announced the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) will deploy AtHoc IWSAlerts™ to provide emergency mass notification to its entire population of roughly 2,500 personnel across the United States.

The deployment of AtHoc IWSAlerts IP-based mass notification system will enable the command’s emergency planners to rapidly deliver emergency alerts via multiple devices such as computers, cell and landline phones, and ERDC’s existing public address system through a single, unified Web console.

ERDC’s adoption of a unified, network-centric alerting system represents another step in the Department of Defense’s rollout of third-generation mass notification technology. Leveraging existing IP networks and integrating existing mass notification capabilities results in an effective enterprise-wide system that is able to alert all personnel and receive feedback on their status.

As the Army’s top research lab, ERDC provides science, technology and expertise in engineering and environmental science in support of the U.S. Armed Forces and the nation. ERDC is part of the Corps of Engineers and provides research and development in the areas of warfighter support, environmental quality, water resources and civil works, and information technology. In support of this work, ERDC has seven laboratories located in Vicksburg, Miss., Champaign, Ill., Hanover, N.H., and Alexandria, Va.

ERDC will deploy AtHoc’s network-centric emergency notification solution to leverage its IP network to quickly reach personnel through any network-connected device in case of an emergency. By using the IP network, organizations can send information about the evolving emergency, provide detailed instructions for action based on the recipient’s role within the organization and receive recipient responses via a feedback mechanism.
AtHoc IWSAlerts will be deployed centrally at ERDC headquarters in Vicksburg with a secondary failover site in Champaign. Each lab will be able to access AtHoc IWSAlerts through the Web to notify local personnel, and commanders and emergency operators at Vicksburg will also have the ability to alert all personnel at all locations as necessary.

In order to ensure accurate and up-to-date personnel contact information, AtHoc IWSAlerts will integrate with ERDC’s Active Directory system. Using the AtHoc IWSAlerts self-service module, ERDC personnel can also update their own contact information directly through an easy-to-use portal.

“ERDC is responsible for mission-critical projects ranging from measuring Arctic temperatures to testing vehicle mobility in sand,” said Colonel David W. Brown (Ret.), director of U.S. Army operations for AtHoc. “We are delighted to be able to help support the ERDC in its mission by keeping the research center informed and safe in times of emergency.”

Through this award, AtHoc has become the network-centric emergency mass notification standard for the entire command and will be deployed at all USAFCENT installations in Iraq, Afghanistan and other allied nations.

USAFCENT is the air component of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). It is responsible for air operations, either unilaterally or in concert with coalition partners, and for contingency planning to support CENTCOM’s 20-nation area of responsibility in Southwest Asia. Once deployed, AtHoc IWSAlerts will provide a command-wide alerting solution for reaching all personnel within the command while also providing each installation with its own local alerting system.

AtHoc has a proven track record in the Department of Defense (DoD). AtHoc solutions today are being used to support more than 1.2 million DoD personnel across 150 installations worldwide, of which 500,000 are Air Force personnel. Installations and commands throughout the DoD benefit from AtHoc’s unified alerting approach, enterprise-wide architecture, reliability and ease of use.

AtHoc IWSAlerts will be deployed over SIPRNET and NIPRNET, providing emergency alerting over USAFCENT’s classified and unclassified networks.
