Unisys Awarded an Estimated $187 Million Contract to Manage and Upgrade ClearPath Mainframe Environment for U.S. Department of Defense
Managed Services Contract Will Support Applications for Air Force, Army and Defense Finance and Accounting Service
BLUE BELL, Pa., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — The U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization (DITCO) has awarded Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) a contract to provide IT managed services for DISA’s Unisys ClearPath mainframe environment.
The contract, awarded in the fourth quarter of 2009, is worth an estimated $187 million over its five-year term. The award enables work Unisys has performed under a previous five-year task order to continue without interruption.
Under the contract, Unisys will provide additional mainframe processing capacity and support services for the agency’s ClearPath systems that support Air Force logistics, Defense Finance and Accounting Service financial activities, and other Department of Defense applications.
Unisys will also upgrade DISA’s mainframe and storage environment, including installation of a virtual tape library storage solution.
The ClearPath Dorado 700 Series is designed for transaction processing environments – especially those requiring continuous availability for highly variable performance workloads – and computing tasks requiring high security. Like other members of the ClearPath family, the Dorado 700 Series offers clients the ability to match computing expenditures to their business requirements. Through metering – a pay-for-use systems software licensing capability – clients can maximize system capacity during peaks and minimize costs when usage is low. This allows them to pay for the exact amount of processing power they use, as they use it.
“This contract represents an extension of a longstanding relationship between Unisys, DISA and DISA clients such as the Air Force,” said Jim Geiger, managing partner, Department of Defense, Unisys Federal Systems. “Our relationship with the Air Force began in 1983, and this contract will continue to support the service’s logistics and other applications. Unisys will continue to support these critical applications to help our Defense Department clients achieve their missions.”

Forward-looking Statements
Any statements contained in this release that are not historical facts are forward-looking statements as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. All forward-looking statements rely on assumptions and are subject to various risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from expectations. In particular, statements in this release regarding the estimated value of this award are based on the assumption that the customer’s computing usage over the five year term of the new contract will be consistent with its past usage levels and that the contract will continue for its full term. Because agreements with government agencies are terminable before the end of their terms and are subject to the availability of appropriated funds, there is no guarantee that the contract will continue for its full term. Additional discussion of factors that could affect Unisys future results is contained in periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

HP Delivers Command and Control Capabilities to Bosnia and Herzegovina Ministry of Defense
PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 14, 2009
HP Enterprise Services today announced it has completed the development and implementation of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Ministry of Defense’s (BiHMoD) operations and command system, known as BiHOCS, to support military organization and manage civil emergency response priorities.
The new system will enable the ministry to coordinate emergency and peace support operations by identifying, tracking and managing military resources.
The new Operations Center for Command and Control was funded by the U.S. State Department’s Foreign Military Financing account, which is intended to promote U.S. national security. The account provides grants for the acquisition of U.S. defense equipment, services as well as training to enable allies to improve their defense capabilities while fostering closer military relationships between the United States and recipient nations.
BiHOCS was part of a two-phase project under the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency contract vehicle, ENCORE. As part of the contract, HP was responsible for the design, preparation, deployment, implementation, integration and sustainment of the operation and command system. During the implementation stage of BiHOCS, HP worked to deliver the network, collaboration applications, supporting infrastructure, end-user equipment and administrator trainings needed to deploy a successful center.
“The Operational Control System provides BiHMoD with the tools needed to effectively manage critical operations during emergency situations,” said Dennis Stolkey, senior vice president of U.S. Public Sector for HP Enterprise Services. “HP is proud to work with the U.S. government to provide Bosnia and Herzegovina with the resources to efficiently manage military functions while subsequently bringing the country closer to its goal of becoming a NATO member.”
The Operational Control System will provide the BiHMoD with a common operating strategy for increased collaboration to manage natural disasters by providing emergency services.
“The Operations Center for Command and Control is the first of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Dr. Selmo Cikotić, minister of defense of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Ministry of Defense.
The new center provides command and control over units of the armed forces tasked with crisis management, operations management for peace support and monitoring regular daily operations as well as activities within the defense institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
HP Enterprise Services is the recently announced brand name for Electronic Data Systems, LLC.

The Army awarded a $370 M contract to build a facility at Fort Meade, MD to accommodate Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) employees moving from the Washington DC area due to the last round of BRAC. See an article here in The Capital. Hensel-Phelps Construction won the contract. Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) is the process on how the DoD closes bases and moves their personnel around. The major decision of the last round was to move DoD and Service offices from leased space in the DC area onto military bases. Because of this large numbers of people will be moved to Fort Meade in MD and Fort Belvoir in VA.
