Lockheed Martin To Continue IT Support For Pentagon

The Department of Defense awarded a contract to Lockheed Martin to continue to provide network and IT support for the world’s largest office building, The Pentagon. The contract is worth almost $300 million. This contract is a continuation of one awarded in 2000.
The Pentagon has been undergoing renovation since the late Nineties with further work required due to the attack on 9/11. This has meant significant upgrades to the networks and capability installed in the building. At the same time the U.S. military has invested heavily in data and computer technology. This contract will have Lockheed Martin running the Network Infrastructure Service Center for the building.
CACI International To Support Army Night Vision Development Efforts

CACI International was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army to support is Research Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM). If all options are awarded for this three year contract it will be worth up to fifty million dollars. CACI International will be providing direct support to the Infrared Focal Plane Array (FPA) Technology (IFT) branch of RDECOM.
This organization conducts research and development of advanced night vision and sensors. This is a continuation contract for the company. They will help with the development and testing of systems to improve target detection and acquisition. The U.S. military’s investment in advanced night vision systems provides a major advantage to it in its operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
U.S. DoD Awards Verizon Large Telecom Contract

Networkworld reports that the U.S. awarded Verizon a ten year contract to provide communication services to bases in the Pacific. The contract will support facilities in the Western U.S., Pacific Rim countries, Central and South America as well as in South West Asia. The contract has a value of $2.5 billion if all options are exercised by 2019. Verizon will manage the Defense Information Network System (DISN) for the military which is used to provide basically all communications for the facilities including internet as well as voice and video. This contract is a continuation of an earlier one won by MCI which was absorbed by Verizon.
US Army continues CROWS production

Kongsberg received further work under the general CROWS contract. The Crew Remotely Operated Weapon System provides a way for soldiers to work sensors and weapons while staying under armor. Kongsberg makes parts of the overall system and this is a continuation of earlier contracts. The overall CROWS contract is worth over $1 B, and this contract has a value of over $200 M.

Army buys more force protection FLIR systems

FLIR Inc, known more for their aircraft installed systems, won a continuation of the contract to provide ground based systems for base and force protection. The US Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command awarded the $96 M contract. FLIR has won several contracts related to this system which provides surveillance of the areas around bases.

DoD buys drugs

Express Scripts corporation was awarded a one year contract with four option years to provide prescriptions to DoD members, retirees and dependents. See an article here. If the full value of the contract is executed it will be worth about $2.8 B. DoD has been moving steadily to outsource a great deal of its medical care over the last thirty years and this is a continued part of that. This is continuation of work that Express Scripts has been doing since 2004.
Navy needs sailors

Bearingpoint was awarded a contract by the US Navy to provide management tools for the Recruiting Command. See a press release here. The contract is worth over $12 M and is a continuation of Bearingpoint’s work over the last few years. As with many other types of corporations the military spends a great deal of money on custom software and database applications. This is actually a large business and is often subsumed within the SETA support contracts.
