EADS North America adds former U.S. Air Force General to Board

Retired Air Force General Arthur Lichte was named to EADS North America’s board. DefenseNews writes that the former head of the Air Mobility Command (AMC) will join EADS (EADS:P) American subsidiary’s board soon.

The AMC commands the Air Force’s tanker assets and having Gen Lichte will aid the company in preparing not only their proposal but the battlefield as he will certainly carry weight with government officials and Congress.

Northrop Grumman And EADS Keep Pressure On

Northrop Grumman and EADS continue their preparation of the battlefield by criticizing the draft RFP put out by the U.S. Air Force a month ago. They believe that by focusing on cost as the prime discriminator in the award that it is biased against their possible proposal. In The Miami Herald article here there representative described the situation: “This is tantamount to a cost shootout that accelerates the race to the bottom,”. They have already received support for this view from some in Congress.

Boeing released a video yesterday of the Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) Aircraft conducting a recent test where it successfully engaged a ground vehicle.

The Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) program, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force, has equipped a C-130H aircraft with a high-energy chemical laser for engagements against ground targets. The system is designed to destroy, damage or disable targets with little to no collateral damage. ATL demonstrations support development of systems that will conduct missions on the battlefield and in urban operations.

Navy invest in WMD detection devices

Fairway Medical Technologies received a small contract from the Navy to look at using their technology to detect chemical agents. The contract is worth about $800 K, and is part of a much larger research project for the Navy. This is to design a hand-held detector for the battlefield.
