Australian Forces Select Aerovironment’s Wasp-AE Mini-UAVs

The Australian defense department selected AeroVironment's Wasp AE small unmanned aircraft system for use by the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The Australian order will deliver mini-drones within a period of three-year period, and support the systems for ten years. The contract is worth A$101 million(USD 74.6 million), of which the about half (US$36.5 million) will be the original manufacturer's share.

The U.S. forces in Afghanistan conducted yesterday a strike on a tunnel complex built by the Islamic State's Khorasan (ISIS-K) terrorist organization. The strike used a 21,500 pound GBU-43 bomb dropped from an Air-Force Special-Operations Command (AFSOC) MC-130 aircraft. Media reports said 36 ISIS operatives reportedly killed in the attack.

As a point-and-shoot weapon, the DroneGun is designed to be effective against a wide variety of drones. By neutralizing drones from a safe distance, DroneGun offers advantages over alternative kinetic solutions such as nets or bullets, as it allows for safe handling of situations such as drones carrying explosives or biological payloads.

US Navy to Deploy its First ‘Electric Ship’ – DDG1000 – to the Pacific

Zumwalt is the first U.S. Navy surface combatant to employ an innovative and highly survivable Integrated Power System (IPS) distributing 1000 volts of direct current across the ship. Each ship in the class features a battery of two Advanced Gun Systems, capable of firing Long-Range Land Attack Projectiles (LRLAP) that reach up to 63 nautical miles, providing three-fold range improvement in naval surface fires coverage. EOther weapon cells accommodate 80 Advanced Vertical Launch System cells storing various weapons including Tomahawk cruise missiles, Evolved Sea Sparrow and Standard air defense missiles, and Vertical Launch Anti-Submarine Rockets (ASROC) (VLA). Photo: US NavyOn May 20, 2016, the U.S. Navy accepted delivery of the lead ship of the next generation, ‘electric ship’ guided missile destroyer, USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000). The Navy announced the home port of the new combatant at Naval Base San Diego following its commissioning in Baltimore, on October 15 this year. Zumwalt is scheduled to arrive in San Diego in late 2016.
