Oshkosh Defense Receives $35 Million in Awards for M-ATV Interface Upgrades and Expanded Aftermarket Support
OSHKOSH, Wis. — March 8, 2010 — Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), announced today it has received three awards valued at more than $35 million from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) for MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) upgrades and in-theater support. The company received two awards for more than 6,400 M-ATV Self Protection Adaptive Roller Kits (SPARKS) upgraded interface brackets, as well as an award expanding Oshkosh Defense aftermarket support in-theater that will place 18 additional Oshkosh field service representatives (FSR) in Afghanistan and six in Iraq.
SPARKS are mine roller systems designed to be fitted to tactical wheeled vehicles and are used to protect soldiers from improvised explosive devices (IED). The roller system makes contact with the IED and causes the device to detonate away from the vehicle and crew. Oshkosh M-ATVs include an existing SPARKS interface. Recently, the SPARKS mine rollers have undergone revisions under U.S. government direction. These upgraded interface brackets will allow Oshkosh® M-ATVs to be fitted with the upgraded SPARKS.
Upgrade kits will be shipped to the Defense Distribution Depot Red River in Texarkana, Texas, in June 2010. The government will ship the brackets to receiving units in theater for installation on Oshkosh M-ATVs. Oshkosh FSRs will support with installation as necessary.
Oshkosh FSRs support the M-ATV and other vehicles in-theater, providing training and the complete spectrum of service and support in Iraq and Afghanistan. Oshkosh FSRs operate at any theater forward base that would support the M-ATV and that may require more access to Oshkosh Corporation than internal assets can provide.
Oshkosh has produced the M-ATV at a rapid pace, meeting the government’s accelerated delivery schedule. To date, the aggregate amount of awards Oshkosh has received for 8,079 M-ATVs, upgrade kits, spare parts kits and aftermarket support is valued at more than $4.74 billion. In addition to providing exceptional survivability, the M-ATV uses the Oshkosh-patented TAK-4® independent suspension system to deliver superior off-road mobility on Afghanistan’s challenging mountainous terrain and unimproved road networks.

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., -- The U.S. Army TACOM Lifecycle Management Command recently awarded General Dynamics Land Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), $253 million for contractor logistics support of the Stryker family of combat vehicles. Logistics support, vehicle resets and upgrades are a continuing portion of General Dynamics' combat systems-related business.
The contract, awarded January 28, 2010, funds contractor support of U.S.
Army Stryker Brigade Combat Teams in the United States and overseas,
including: ordering spare parts, managing a spare-parts warehouse, worldwide distribution of repair parts and completing maintenance services on the Stryker vehicle fleet. Work will be performed by existing General Dynamics employees in Alaska, Hawaii, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, and overseas in Afghanistan, Germany, Iraq and Kuwait. The period of performance is March 1, 2010 through February 28, 2011.

General Dynamics Awarded USD$2.2 Billion Contract for Light Armored Vehicles
LONDON, Ontario, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — The U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, in support of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command (USASAC), has awarded a USD$2.2 billion contract to General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada for 724 Light Armored Vehicles (LAV) for a Foreign Military Sale (FMS). Vehicle deliveries will begin in April 2011. General Dynamics Land Systems, the Canadian company’s parent corporation, is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) .
The contract was signed through the Canadian Commercial Corporation, a Crown Agency of the Canadian Government.
Dr. Sridhar Sridharan, senior vice-president of General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, said, “We are pleased to be working once again with TACOM and USASAC in support of their Foreign Military Sales program. This contract now allows us to immediately start work on variant design and production readiness. We look forward to reaching the manufacturing portion of this contract which will help us bring stability to our production workforce.”
Vehicles provided under this contract will be the LAV II version — a 300 horsepower 8×8 vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of up to 32,000 lbs (14,500 kg). The vehicles will be produced in 10 different variants.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems announced today that it has successfully developed and tested a new approach for low-cost guided mortars called the 120mm Roll- Controlled Guided Mortar (RCGM). Under a cooperative research and
development agreement with the U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal,
N.J., General Dynamics successfully tube-launched and guided RCGM prototypes from a M120 120mm mortar weapon system at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Grounds.
The Roll-Controlled Guided Mortar uses standard 120mm M934A1 mortar-round components, including the warhead and fuzing elements, to reduce costs and risks in response to an accelerated fielding timeline for this critical operational capability.
Several key enhancements are made to evolve the M934A1 into a precision
mortar, while using existing warheads to maximize its lethality. For
example, the standard fuze (M734A1) is adapted to include an integrated
fuze-and-Global-Positioning-System (GPS) guidance, navigation and control (GNC) subassembly while maintaining the current fuze-setting method and function. The GNC subassembly incorporates a GPS receiver with a low-cost control system known as the Roll-Controlled Fixed Canard (RCFC) system, developed and patented by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, that allows the mortar to adjust its flight to reach the intended target.
To further reduce costs and speed deployment, the RCGM cartridge maintains the "look and feel" of the existing M934A1 cartridge, so no major changes in operating procedures are necessary. The fuze, warhead and LAP production will occur on existing, operational lines.
General Dynamics has assembled a team to qualify and produce the RCGM to
meet the Army's immediate guided mortar requirements, with a vision to
enhance its operational capability in the future. As the current integrator of the M934A1 120mm mortar cartridge and producer of all of the major components, General Dynamics' team is in the unique position to leverage its production history to deliver the lowest-risk, lowest-cost, next-generation precision mortar cartridge to the U.S. Army.
