Lt. Gen. Jack Shanahan spent his last day as the Pentagon’s top AI official last Friday. Shanahan officially retired from the military’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC), which he helped to establish back in 2018. In a virtual event on Friday, Shanahan told viewers that the JAIC is expanding its AI to tackle not just humanitarian efforts like disaster assistance, but faster communications during warfighting. He said the military must move faster to incorporate AI into warfare and national security.
