A team led by EADS and also consisting of Booz Allen, HP and Cisco was awarded a contract to produce a new communication system for the NATO Response Force. The Wall Street Journal writes that this contract is worth about $70 million originally with an option for a further $22 million in support. This Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) based system will be scalable to support different sized headquarters as they are mission configured to support the contingency operation the force is deployed for. Most of the work will be done in England. Eventually this system, the NATO Deployable Communication and Information System, will be used to form the standard for NATO military communications when forces are deployed.
