Loren Thompson on why Boeing lost

In this article in The Seattle Times, noted aerospace analyst Loren Thompson explains why Boeing lost to Northrop-Grumman and EADS. Basically, the 767 wasn’t competitive. He also points out that there is little for Boeing to hang their hat on if they do protest. By law they have until Monday the 10th to do so, but the article says that the Air Force hasn’t debriefed Boeing yet on why they lost. Certainly there is pressure from Congress to do something to give Boeing the contract. Senator McCain, who is responsible for a lot of what caused the Air Force to end up where it was, is supposed to be reserving judgement, but wants an explanation from the Air Force. Somehow he thinks that this was done unfairly?
